Ronin and ROMW Split: Ecological Games Face Crisis, Player Interests Damaged

Recently, the development team of "Ragnarok: Monster World" (ROMW) 0x& launched the "multi-chain architecture" server on the CROSS Protocol, announcing that the game progress and token system will be completely independent of Ronin. This move has sparked strong reactions from the community, with widespread criticism.

Just two days later, Sky Mavis co-founder and COO publicly accused ROMW of violating the cooperation agreement and announced the termination of the partnership with 0x&. This series of events pushed both parties, who were originally deeply cooperating, into a crisis of trust, which not only affected the Ronin ecosystem to some extent but also cast a shadow over the future of ROMW.

In this dispute, both sides hold their ground. Sky Mavis executives accuse the ROMW team of ignoring suggestions and secretly signing contracts with other blockchains. On the other hand, the ROMW side denies any secret agreements and claims to have fulfilled all contractual obligations, having communicated transparently with Sky Mavis as early as February this year.

It is worth noting that the community had already sensed a rift in the relationship between both parties a day before the official announcement of the split. A Sky Mavis executive publicly criticized ROMW as "a poor imitation of Clash Royale" in a post about another game. This shift in attitude left many players confused, as it was Sky Mavis that had strongly endorsed ROMW in the early days.

Sky Mavis also announced that it would take "punitive" measures, including delisting ROMW and its assets from its products. This decision has raised questions in the community about centralization issues, with some users believing that this approach undermines the credibility of the Ronin ecosystem. Ultimately, Sky Mavis made some concessions regarding this matter.

The decision for ROMW to switch to the CROSS Protocol has left many players feeling angry and confused. CROSS is a dedicated sidechain based on Ethereum that supports on-chain gaming and NFT ownership verification. The games running on ROMW in CROSS are completely independent from the Ronin server, including independent game processes, token economics, and leaderboards.

This means that the games on the two networks have almost no economic connection, and the investments made by players in the Ronin version may go to waste. Many players strongly criticize this behavior, considering it a "soft rug" that harms the interests of players.

For ROMW, this incident has severely damaged its reputation, and rebuilding an active player community will be a huge challenge. Regardless, the ultimate victims of this dispute are those game players who once believed in the endorsement of Ronin and the quality of ROMW.
